2010 World Series Game Six – REPLAY   4 comments

even game for the series which means i’m using Statis Pro Advanced.  if you loved the old Statis Pro, take it to the next level with SPA.  the advanced has L/R splits for both pitchers and hitters.  you might see a pitcher like CJ Wilson who is a 2-8 versus lefties, but only a 2-7 versus right handers.  it completely changes the game and makes it more realistic.  then he also includes controls built right into the card.  some players don’t strike out as much.  some players rarely walk.  those controls are built in to help make the game even more statistically accurate.  i love this game.  Derrick does a great job making them and my advice would be to get the printed version, however if you want the PDF, he sells those, too (and for a lot less).

If you’ve not already done so, please take two seconds and subscribe to this blog on the left side of your screen.

in real life the Rangers got slapped around like a cheap whore (no offense to any cheap whores who may be reading this).  i predicted the Giants in five and that’s exactly what happened.  while the Giants didn’t have much hitting, they had a ton of pitching and that’s what allowed them to take the series in five (did i mention i predicted that?).

BUT this is the replay.  it’s been a topsy turvy series and the Rangers are on the precipice of winning their first ever world series.  they lead the series 3 games to 2, but they have to go back to face the Giants in San Francisco.  the Giants are throwing Cain again while the Rangers send CJ Wilson to the mound.

wow!  this was a great series.  i’ll be honest with you, i wanted the giants to win, but, as the Rolling Stones sang, you can’t always get what you want.  i thoroughly enjoyed using both the regular Statis Pro and the Statis Pro Advanced.  i highly recommend both variations.  you can’t go wrong with either one of them.

i hope  you enjoyed the write ups and took the time to subscribe to this site.

2010 World Series Game Five – REPLAY   Leave a comment

as it has been in every odd numbered game of this 2010 world series replay, i’ve been using the card set from Brian Yonushonis.  it’s a great set and i would highly encourage you to invest the very low price of $9 if you like the Avalon Hill style cards (PDF format).  it’s a great set and will give you that exact same feel you had when you used to play Statis Pro.  really, Brian does a fantastic job.  the cards even have the team logo in the right hand corner and the ratings have been improved over the original version (AH got sloppy the last few years they made the cards).

If you’ve not already done so, please take two seconds and subscribe to this blog on the left side of your screen.

game five was a rematch of the starting pitchers from the series opener.  in that game Lincecum was hit hard in the first inning and then settled down.  the Giants hitting just kept picking at Lee until they chased him from the game and then continued to score off the pen.  the end result was a San Francisco victory.  this game looked significantly different for awhile.  let’s get you right to the action …

Andrus singles to right.  Again the runners are going station to station with Molina clogging the bases.  One out, bases are full.
– manager visits the mound.  Lincecum seems to have convinced him that he’s got enough.  He stays.

RANGERS WIN 5-2 and lead the series 3-2.  Just one game away from winning the world series!

The stuff:
SFG 020 000 000 - 2 8 1
TEX 100 000 40x - 5 9 0

SFG - Lincecum (L) 6.1, Lopez 1.2; Posey 8.0
TEX - Lee (W) 9.0; Molina 9.0

SFG HR: Burrell (2)
TEX HR: Young (2)

Young’s blast was big, big, big.  it seemed to take the wind out of the sails of the Giants.  but truth be told, Lee was doing a great job of keeping the hitters off balance.  it was a well pitched game and what the Rangers had expected from him in the first game.  Lincecum, on the other hand has been the victim of the big inning again.  it was the first inning during the first game, this time it was the seventh.  the Rangers have a very strong lineup from top to bottom and can post up a lot of runs in a hurry if you’re not careful.

in real life the Rangers are on the ropes.  here in replay land, they’re in the driver seat as we get ready to head back to San Francisco for game six.  it’s been a great series so far and i’m looking forward to a very tense game six back in the Giants home park.

as this game came to a close and i was working on the write ups, the Giants in real life closed the door for game four. they now lead the series 3-1 and it’s not looking too promising for the Rangers. but in baseball anything can happen. lee may come out and pitch as he has the entire playoffs with the exception of his last game against the Giants. if that’s the case, they have a realistic chance. my prediction was Giants in five games. with lincecum on the mound for San Fran, my prediction has a very high probability.

but here in this illustrious replay, we’re knotted at two games apiece. every time i get these two teams on the field i’m really drawn to just how strong the Rangers hitting is. there’s not many weak spots in the lineup. while the Giants pen has done a remarkable job, they’re having to pitch too much, meaning their starters aren’t getting deep enough into the game. that part is a little frustrating. their starting nine is respectable with some very bright spots in there, but there bench is pretty weak overall. they’re a scrappy team that relies on it’s pitching. it’s back to lincecum and cain for the next two. will they be able to hold off lee and whomever throws for the Rangers in game six? we’ll find out.

one more note. the Giants have won both games using Brian’s traditional card set. the Rangers have won both of their games when it’s played with Statis Pro Advanced. not reading anything more into that. it was just an observation.

TEX - Lewis 6.0, Oliver 1.0, Ogando 1.0, O'Day (L) 0.1, Feliz 0.2; Molina 9.0

SFG HR: Posey (2)
TEX HR: Hamilton

another great game between these two clubs.  take a look at Sanchez’ pitching lines:

REAL Life 4.2IP, 6H, 4R, 3BB, 3K
REPLAY 4.2IP, 5H, 3R, 4BB, 6K

his replay line was almost identical to his real life line.  just goes to show you that this game is freakin’ fantastic.  i did make sure not to pull a “ron washington” with either team.  i tried to be intensely focused on both teams pitching situation.  the big arms of the rangers pen that did great during the regular season just didn’t work for them tonight.  it was just one of those game for them.  shouldn’t happen that often and it was a surprise tonight when it did.

2010 World Series Game Two – REPLAY   Leave a comment

game two of the 2010 world series was played using Statis Pro Advanced thanks to the quick, hard work of Derrick Beckner.  he sent me a sneak preview of the 2010 set with the two world series teams.  the rest of this series i’ll be alternating between Brian’s set based on the original AH style (but still with improvements) and Derrick’s set (with L/R splits and added controls).  both are excellent games and i don’t think you could go wrong with either gaming system.  they both feel like Statis Pro and that is simply awesome.

a fantastic game.  truly a pitchers duel and that’s what i was hoping for.  i didn’t realize it until Wilson was pulled, but he only gave up three hits — all in the first inning.  the Giants just couldn’t figure him out after that.  he struck out ten in the nine innings before turning the ball over to Feliz.  Cain struggled a bit in the second and fourth inning, but did fine overall.  it may have been a mistake going to the bench in the seventh, but you’re to manage for the regulation game, not manage to get into extra innings.  i was trying to get the lead right then.  it didn’t happen and it was to the pen.  after we got to the eleventh, i should have brought in Wilson and will be second guessed on that.  he was ready, but i was thinking this game might be going even longer.  after the homer i figured let Mota finish his mess.  and THAT is why i’m not a major league manager.  it was a stupid mistake and it won’t happen again.  next time i’ll get the big man in there and use the others only if it gets to that point.  i guess the consolation is the homer came on a PB:10 so it would have been regardless of who was pitching.  at least this way the ‘Beard’ can’t say he lost the game.  not much of a consolation, but it’s all i have.  i feel like Ron Washington right now.

two games in and we’re all knotted at one game apiece.  the rest of this series should be PRE-play.  stop on by tomorrow afternoon to see how game three turned out.
